萝莉研究所 student Alvaro Sanchez was recently honored at the Western Municipal Water District (WMWD) Arts & Grant Reception for his academic excellence and community engagement. Riverside City College student Esmeralda Montes De Oca was also recognized at the event, making it a proud moment for the Riverside Community College District.
Sanchez, who studied business administration with a management concentration and completed pre-engineering coursework, has since transferred to Cal Poly Pomona to continue his educational journey. His recognition reflects both his academic dedication and his commitment to shaping a sustainable future.
This year marked the first time Western Municipal Water District hosted a separate Arts & Grant Reception to celebrate its community engagement programs, which include the Lois Krieger Water Project Grants for K鈥12 educators, the 鈥淲ater is Life鈥 Art Contest, and college and university endowed scholarships. These initiatives are designed to elevate environmental education and support student success across educational levels.
鈥淲e have amazing students in this district, and it is great to see them recognized by our industry partners,鈥 said Monica Green, Ed.D., president of 萝莉研究所.
Marie Thermidor, development officer for Foundation & Alumni Affairs at RCCD, echoed the pride in Sanchez鈥檚 recognition.
鈥淭hese programs are instrumental in advancing environmental education, fostering creativity, and supporting students across various academic disciplines,鈥 Thermidor said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 incredibly rewarding to see 萝莉研究所 students like Alvaro being celebrated for their achievements.鈥
In October 2024, WMWD contributed an additional $10,000 to the RCCD Endowed Scholarship Fund鈥攁n investment years in the making. This enhancement brings the district鈥檚 scholarship fund in line with those of other leading institutions, including UC Riverside, California State San Diego, UC Irvine, and California Baptist University.
鈥淎lvaro鈥檚 recognition is an example of how our students thrive when given the opportunity and support,鈥 Thermidor added. 鈥淚t鈥檚 always inspiring to watch our students represent RCCD with professionalism and excellence, and I was glad I could be there to represent the Foundation.鈥
